과거에는 그러했지만 현재는 그렇지 않다.

(in past) I play the piano.
(now) I play the guitar.
-> I used to play a piano.
Now I play a guitar.
So I don’t play a piano.
과거에는 피아노를 쳤고, 현재는 기타를 치고 있고, 현재는 피아노는 안 치는 상태

과거에 뭘 했지만 현재는 아닐 때 used to verb라는 문법을 쓴다.
무조건 과거에 있었던 일을 사용할 때만 써야하고 현재에 대해 기술할 때는 현재형을 써야지 use to verb를 쓰면 안 된다.

Negative

use가 action을 나타내는 동사이기 때문에 do라는 동사가 필요하다.
하지만 used는 과거이기 때문에 do의 동사 did를 써서 부정문을 나타내면 된다.

I used to study English. -> I didn't use to study English.
She used to have nice pen. -> She didn't use to have nice pen.
Tom and I used to write a book. -> Tom and I didn't use to write a book.
